Pizza Sauce
- 1 can San Marzano tomatoes
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon sugar (optional, to taste)
Toppings
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 ½ cups sliced pepperoni
- Fresh basil (optional, for garnish)
Method
1. Prepare the Dough: Follow the instructions for your chosen recipe or allow your pre-made dough to proof.
2. Prepare the Sauce:
- In a saucepan over medium heat, heat the olive oil. Add the garlic and onion powder, and cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
- Add the San Marzano tomatoes and crush them lightly with a spoon. Then add oregano, salt, pepper, and sugar (if using). Stir and simmer on low for 10-15 minutes. Adjust seasoning to taste. Remove from heat.
3. Assemble the Pizza:
- Heat up your pizza oven to 350-400°C.
- Stretch out your dough ball on a floured surface into a 12-inch circle or larger if you are wanting a bigger pizza base.
- Spread a thin layer of your sauce over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges.
- Add slices of fresh mozzarella evenly over the sauce.
- Arrange the sliced pepperoni evenly over the cheese.
4. Bake the Pizza:
- Use a pizza peel to place your pizza into your pizza oven.
- Once your pizza is in the oven you will need to turn the pizza every 20-30 seconds.
- We recommend using a turning peel as it allows you to spin the pizza without having to remove it from your pizza oven.
- Pizza ovens cook pizza very quickly (usually 60-90 seconds) so make sure you keep an eye on it as it is cooking to prevent it from burning.
- Remove from the oven, garnish with a few more fresh basil leaves, and drizzle with olive oil.
5. Serve:
- Once baked, remove the pizza from the oven. Optionally, garnish with fresh basil leaves.
- Slice and enjoy your homemade pepperoni pizza!
